ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Post-graduate Department of Shalya Tantra is dealing with surgical aspects of the system through imparting quality patient care, teaching, training and various research activities concerning surgery. Specialized treatment is provided for Arsha and Bhagandara with Kshara Karma and Kshara Sutra therapy, Gridhrasi, Sandhivata, Kadara, Vatakantaka, Charmakeela, Avabahuka, Tennis Elbow etc. by Agnikarma, Raktamokshana, Marma Chikitsa and Shalya Karma therapies. The Department also provides treatment for chronic non healing ulcers, periheral vascular disorders by Jalaukavacharana method. This Department also undertakes treatment of Bhagna, Mutra Ashmari (Urinary Calculi), Undukapuccha Shotha (Appendicitis), Pittashaya Shotha (Cholecystitis), Pittashaya Ashmari (Cholelithiasis), Vriddhi roga (Hydrocele, Hernia etc.) and other general surgical disorders. The Department is having 4 Ph.D Scholars and 21 PG Scholars.

The Shalya Tantra department is an important branch in National Institute of Ayurveda. The teaching faculties of the department are expert in various Surgical and Parasurgical procedures. In the field of Ayurveda, Shalya Tantra department is developing a new research based tradition by conducting new works in the favour of public welfare. This department has its own OPD (General Shalya, Anorectal & Orthopedic), IPD, Minor Operation theatre (Sastra Karma, Kshara Karma, Kshara Sutra, Agnikarma & Raktamokshana Units) and Major Operation theatre. The Department imparts Under Graduate, DAN & P, Post Graduate and Ph.D education along with hand to hand surgical training. The CCTV facility of OT light with Camera is available in Major Operation theatre and connecting with the class room for live demonstrations of various surgical procedures by the students along with interaction.

The department has its own well equipped operation theatre with C-arm facility, Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy facilities, where all the surgical procedures like Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Hernial repairs, Mastectomy, Thyroidectomy etc. are done under sterile environment under proper Anesthesia. All the patients are given proper treatment under outdoor and indoor patient department. The department carried out various camps regarding Ayurvedic surgery.

Special techniques of Parasurgical procedures like Kshara Karma, Kshara Sutra, Agnikarma, Raktamokshana, Jalaukavacharana, Siravyadhana etc have been adopted to treat many sufferers. Various research projects on these topics are going on till date under Shalya Department. The General Surgeon and Anesthetist are delivering guest lectures and training the BAMS students, PG and Ph.D Scholars.

The department is well equipped with all surgical specimens, models, teaching materials, CD’s, surgical photos and charts. The department has its own library with nearly 1000 books. The department has a computer, printer, digital camera, LCD projector etc.

Presently 2 Professors, 3 Assistant Professors and 1 Assistant Professor with 5 non-teaching staff were working in this department. Presently 21 post graduate students and 4 Ph.D Scholars are studying in Shalya department on regular basis.

Academic Achievements:

A) Diploma in AYUSH Nursing & Pharmacy

During the year, theoretical as well as practical teaching, training and guidance in the subject of Shalya Tantra were provided to Ayurvedic nursing students. They are guided in OPDs, IPDs & OT according to guidelines provided by Dr.S.R.Rajasthan Ayurved University, Jodhpur.

B) Undergraduate Level:

During the year, theoretical as well as practical teaching, training and guidance in the subject of Shalya Tantra were provided to students of BAMS. There is present excellent atmosphere for the students to learn the surgical procedures inside the operation Theatre.

C) Postgraduate Level:

During the year, theoretical as well as practical teaching, training and guidance in the Shalya Tantra subject were provided to PG Scholars. PG Scholars are provided with every possible method to see & learn the various surgical disorders & perform the operative procedures. Various PG Research works as approved by the institutional ethical committee are in progress following standard guidelines.

D) Ph.D Level:

Teaching, training and guidance is being given to Ph.D scholars on their subjects as per rules and directions of Dr S R Rajasthan Ayurved University Jodhpur. Ph.D Scholars along with their involvement in OPD/academic curriculum are also provided with excellent opportunity to see and learn the various surgical disorders & perform the operative procedures. Various Ph.D Research works as approved by the institutional ethical committee are also in progress following standard guidelines.

4 Jalaukavacharana Unit Unit is providing best and effective treatment through Jalaukavacharana Therapy to patients and educating the scholars.
5 Agnikarma Unit Unit is providing best treatment through Agnikarma to patients suffering from Dadru, Vicharchika, Gridhrasi, Sandhivata, Kadara, Charmakeela, Apabahuka, Vatakantaka, Tennis Elbow etc. diseases.
6 Jalaukavacharana Unit Unit is providing best and effective treatment through Jalaukavacharana Therapy to patients and educating the scholars.
