Under-Graduate Programme - Ayurvedacharya - BAMS

1. Introduction:

The Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) is a 5½-year undergraduate programme, comprising 4½ years of academic study, followed by one year of compulsory rotatory internship. From the BAMS Batch 2021–22 onwards, comprising 4½ years of academic study divided into three Professional phases of 1½ years each, as prescribed by the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM), Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.

The programme aims to provide comprehensive knowledge of Ayurvedic principles along with relevant modern medical sciences to develop competent Ayurvedic physicians. The total annual intake capacity is 125 seats, including:

• 113 seats for Indian Nationals as per Government of India reservation policy.

• 12 seats for Foreign National candidates under approved Government schemes.

2. Mode of Admission:

Admission to the BAMS programme is made solely on the basis of merit in NEET-UG. All seats (irrespective of category under Central Quota), except Foreign National seats, are filled only through Centralized Online Counseling conducted by the All India Ayush Admissions Central Counseling Committee (AACCC), under the Ministry of AYUSH.

The Institute does not conduct any separate entrance examination and does not permit direct admissions.

3. Admission Process (Indian Nationals) :

• Educational Qualifications: Must have passed 10+2 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology.

• Entrance Examination: Must qualify for the NEET-UG (National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test) according to the current year's prescribed cut-off.

• Age Limit: Candidates must be at least 17 years of age on or before 31st December of the year of admission.

• Counseling: Eligible candidates are required to participate in the AACCC (Ayush Admissions Central Counseling Committee) online counseling process.

• The seat allotment is conducted by the Ayush Admissions Central Counselling Committee (AACCC) strictly based on merit and the reservation policy of the Government of India.

• After allotment, candidates must report to the Institute with required documents for verification.

• Admission is confirmed only after verification of eligibility, documents and applicable fee payment through prescribed mode.

Note: The admission rules and eligibility criteria are subject to change by the competent authority from time to time.

4. Admission Process (Foreign Student) :

• 12 out of 125 seats are reserved for Foreign National candidates.

• Seats are filled exclusively through ICCR / Ministry of AYUSH.

• No direct application to the Institute is permitted.

• Candidates must have passed 10+2 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology, or any other equivalent qualification approved by the Central Government.

• The candidate must have completed 17 years of age on or before 31st December of the year of admission.

• Final admission is subject to nomination and approval through the concerned Government authority.

5. Fee Structure : The fee structure for the BAMS programme (subject to revision by competent authority) is as follows:

• First Professional: ₹ 54,863

• Second Professional: ₹ 41,481

• Third Professional: ₹ 40,481

Hostel Fee: ₹ 11,250 per Professional (18 Months)

6. Internship Stipend

A stipend of ₹ 23,500 per month (subject to revision by competent authority) is payable only to interns admitted to and undergoing internship at NIA. Interns from other institutions are not eligible for stipend.
